We have been looking at out explorer interface over the last few days, and we would like to know if you feel that the left hand column would be missed if we were to remove it in order to gain a bigger map.
No functionality would be lost – all of the climbs will still be available on the map itself.
If the overall verdict is undecided, allowing it to be closed/expanded would be good.
You could also have the application remember a default show/hide sidebar choice for logged in users. Advertise this ability to non-logged-in-users and you might get people signing up.

I agree with kenny, I think it should be able to close or open. Every so often it is nice to have there.
