So far everything seems to be working quite well, however the app doesn’t seem too user-friendly yet in the sense that, for example as you’ve just pointed out, I can add climbs but they don’t show up outside the guidebooks. I will soon have a try at adding climbs to the guidebook I created and see how it goes.

I personally like the guidebook idea but of course you also need to implement single climbs nearby (1 off boulders etc), I don’t see why you can’t just have them list in the app below the guidebooks. If that makes sense..

At this point, more than anything I would just love to be able to see other climbs people (and I) have added because I think that’s the main thing people want out of the app, all the extras such as guidebooks, topos etc, can wait til later. I understand though that it can’t be easy building an app with this much features and functions so I’m just happy to see that it’s still being worked on.

Overall I think the app so far is a great start and an awesome idea, keep up the good work!

ps. If anything can be done later about the grading system that’d be terrific :P I keep having to refer to my grade converter app to see what the hell a f6b, etc

Oh, and I’m enjoying seeing you adding and updating climbs with the app. How are you finding it? Any problems?

You can add climbs outside of your guidebooks, but won’t be able to see them in the iPhone app at the moment. Once you sync, the climbs will be added to Bouldr, and if you add a guidebook to cover the new climbs you’ve added, they will be visible to you too.

I’m having a think about how best to handle this situation without making the app confusing. Do you have any suggestions?

Another question, if I add climbs outside a guidebook (ie. a random boulder on the side of the road, not really in an “area”) is it meant to show up on the app anyway? For example, in Brisbane QLD Australia I added Urban Climb, which is not far from the Kangaroo Point guidebook I created, however, in the app, Kangaroo point guidebook shows up but Urban Climb doesn’t.

Hi Pat,

I’m working on the help system for Bouldr now – I’ll put up some instructions for topos, guidebooks, the iPhone app and so on.

There is no way to share guidebooks at the moment – a guidebook is more of an area defined for synchronising with your iPhone, and is only associated with your own account. Sharing guidebooks is something I’ll be incorporating sometime soon.

When you add climbs via the iPhone app and synchronise, then the climbs are added to Bouldr – regardless of whether they were added in a guidebook area or an area outside.

Hope this answers your questions – give me a shout if you have any more suggestions or questions.

Not sure I understand how the guidebook system works, if there is a page that I’ve missed somewhere that explains it then please link it and I’ll have a read.

Trying to get the hang of this system so I’ve created a guidebook for Kangaroo Point, QLD Australia. I’m assuming the next time I go there I can add climbs and it will show in the guidebook right?

What I want to know is;
a. Can I add other peoples guidebooks? Say, if my friend has made a guidebook for another area. If yes, how do I find them?
b. Assuming I CAN add other peoples guidebooks, if it’s a fairly undeveloped guidebook, can I add climbs to it/can they add climbs to mine?
